Preferred Drug List Program
About
The Vendor Drug Program implemented the Medicaid Preferred Drug List (PDL) in 2004. All products currently available to Medicaid clients will continue to be available. Preferred drugs will be available without prior authorization, while non-preferred drugs will require prior authorization. Only the prescribing physician or one of their staff representatives can request a prior authorization. Approved requests for prior authorization will be valid for one year.
The Pharmaceutical and Therapeutics (P&T) Committee develops recommendations for the preferred drugs lists adopted by HHSC.
